UK pharma trade body to review code of practice
The UK's pharma trade body has announced its management board is to introduce a new code of practice in 2015, following a review.
In a Monday statement, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) said its board will start its periodical review of the code and the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) that upholds it.
The ABPI board will make recommendations for a new code, coming into force on January 1st 2015, with any changes subject to consultation and agreed at a members meeting in November 2014.
Additionally, the implementation of a European disclosure code, governing payments to healthcare professionals and healthcare organisations is ongoing and will be integrated into next year's code, coming into effect in January 2014.
Stephen Whitehead, chief executive of the ABPI, said in the statement: "The review of the Code of Practice is an important step in ensuring that the industry has clear guidance for interactions and partnership at a time when the UK environment is changing significantly."
