NHS England publish interim national policy statement on access to Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT)
NHS England has published an interim national policy statement outlining its position on access to Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT), a form of radiotherapy which is used in the treatment of liver cancer.
Previous commissioning arrangements for this treatment varied around the country and therefore the policy statement has been developed using a rapid appraisal approach, based on the current evidence available, and informed by expert advice from clinicians in radiotherapy and liver disease, as well as from Public Health colleagues.
The development of a policy statement enables a nationally consistent approach to the commissioning of this treatment for the first time. A full policy is being developed and will be subject to public consultation.
