Dalkeith Health Centre opens

06/06/2012

Patients in Scotland are benefiting from continued investment in health projects. Over £1.5 billion is being invested in making improvements to NHS buildings over the next three years.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon visited the latest health facility to benefit from capital investment.

The £3 million Dalkeith Health Centre, in Midlothian, houses GP services, as well as providing a range of services including podiatry, physiotherapy, midwifery, speech therapists and community psychiatric nurses.

Officially opening the new health centre, which began treating patients in September last year, Ms Sturgeon said:

"Having the right facilities, in the right place is important to people across Scotland and that is why it is so important that we continue to invest in ensuring both staff and patients can work and be treated in the best possible surroundings.

"Investment in health is a top priority for the Scottish Government and the continued delivery of our plans to improve capital infrastructure demonstrates the depth of our commitment to the NHS in Scotland.”

Major capital schemes for 2012-13 include:

  • New Southern General, Glasgow
  • Emergency Care Centre, Aberdeen
  • Royal Victoria Hospital, Edinburgh
  • Nuclear Medicine Facilities at Ninewells, Dundee
